This is a clear-headed take: expect another major summer at Ibrox. Rohl will be reshaping a squad swollen with loans, expiring contracts and a need for more home-grown faces if we’re going to meet European rules.

Outgoings first — the list is long

There are a lot of players whose futures look uncertain. Contracts running down include Liam Kelly, John Souttar, Tav, Matondo, Bailey Rice and Kieran Wright. On top of that we’ve a clutch of loan returns that could walk out the door or need new deals — Mikey Moore, ASO, Nasser Djiga, Derek Cornelius, Aarons and Meghoma among them. It’s not fanciful to say we’ll be taking what we can for a few who aren’t in the picture: Bajrami, Aasgaard (who might stay), Miovski.

Squad balance — holes to fill

All those departures would leave us short in several positions. Realistically we should be targeting: a backup keeper to Butland, a starting right-back ahead of Tav, at least one and perhaps two centre-backs to complement Fernandez, a left-back cover, a defensive midfielder, an upgrade in the number 10 role and another winger if Gassama interest comes to anything. That’s a big shopping list and it needs prioritising.

Home-grown quotas and the academy

Don’t forget the non-football stuff. Lose Kelly or Wright and we could be light on Scottish/home-grown players for European squads. Expect the club to try and bring through or sign a few Scots, and to start integrating promising kids into the first-team environment. It’s sensible squad-building — and it helps with the numbers when you’re juggling UEFA rules.

So yes, another busy window is coming. Lots of exits, a handful of clear targets and the usual juggling act between financial sense and on-pitch needs. First things first though: title to win. Then we can properly sort the summer chaos.
