Watched the match back this morning and the feeling was clear straight away: domination in the first half without enough real danger. You can control possession and pin a team back, but if you only force three attempts all game and the only two on target are the goals, it won’t win you anything.
Not enough work for their keeper
That first half should have been about making the keeper earn his money. Instead it felt like we moved the ball around without ever really testing him. Plenty of shape and tempo, not enough end product. Small margins here, but they matter. The opposition made two changes and suddenly the balance shifted. Momentum is fragile and we didn’t do the simple things to keep it.
Seeing the game out is a problem
The inability to hang onto a 1-0 lead, like against Motherwell, keeps coming up and it’s costing us. You need to shut games down at this stage of the season. Whether it’s substitutions, a tactical tweak or a change in approach for the last 20 minutes, that competence has been missing. Relying on the same setup and expecting a different result is not realistic.
Röhl and the players both have questions to answer
People have been quick to praise Röhl when things clicked, and rightly so, but applause works both ways. If the timing of changes and the reading of the game regularly leave us exposed then criticism follows. Equally the players have not shown the steel to close out games recently. Both elements must improve if we want to keep pace.
Truth is, both teams looked off the pace and that’s worrying for the title race. We can’t afford to drop more points. Next game takes on a bigger meaning than it should, and if we don’t win there will be more heat from the stands. I’m frustrated, but not surprised. Little things have added up and they need fixed now.
