Today felt like one of those games where the result and the manner of it both mattered. To be fair, Aberdeen weren't the stiffest opposition, but we played with tempo, purpose and a bit of swagger. There were genuine positives across the pitch and enough encouraging individual displays to make me properly upbeat about where things can go.
Centre‑backs finally look settled
Manny and Djiga strolled through most of the afternoon. To say they were comfortable would be understating it: calm on the ball, quick enough to cover, and they dealt with the simple moments that win you games. Yes, there was that one goal where we all lost the plot, but on balance you can see why that pairing feels like our strongest option. The composure between them gives the rest of the team licence to push on.
Midfield grit and a captain’s reminder
Chuckwuani had one of those displays you notice even on a day when the whole team clicks. Physical, tidy, and when he got his chance he struck it brilliantly. Naderi also caught the eye — all over the pitch, carrying power and a willingness to link play. He deserves more of the ball in advanced areas, not always just the creative scraps. As for Tav, the first half wasn't great by his standards, but that goal was a peach and a timely reminder of what he’s produced for the club over the years.
Rommens, Moore and the young guns
Tuur Rommens might be the most exciting signing we've made in a while. He’s a proper left‑back: takes men on, hits the byline, and delivers low hard cutbacks — things we don’t often do enough of. It’s refreshing to see that direct intent. And Mikey Moore? Give the boy credit. He looks at home, comfortable in the setup and clearly a talent. It’ll be a shame if he moves on, because he’s already integrated well and looks set for a bright future.
All in all, enjoyable football with real signs of progress. Plenty to build on and a decent platform to take into the next game. Rohl on next game.
