I left Ibrox scunnered and shellshocked. At half-time it felt done, but the second half flipped the script and we paid the price for complacency.
Half-time comfort turned to chaos
To be fair, the first 45 looked tidy enough. You could see why some supporters and, apparently, some of the squad felt comfortable. Trouble is, football rarely hands you a game just because you think you have it. We looked content to hold what we'd got rather than push on and force the issue, and that sort of mindset makes you vulnerable.
The midfield extra man changed everything
What got me was the clear change in dynamics after the break. The extra man in midfield for them shifted the balance and the flow swung away from us. You can talk about shape, tempo and the press, but when the opposition suddenly have more options in the middle it forces you into decisions you don't want to make. They did to us what we did to them at the midden earlier in the season, and it cost us dearly.
Those dropped points haunt us
Combine today with the points we surrendered against a 10 Motherwell side and the shock defeats to teams people call the worst in the league, and you have a pattern. It's hard to square that with any realistic title charge. We might claw ourselves back into contention at times, but we keep handing back ground in the moments that matter.
Questions for DR and the dressing room
Truth is, I heard DR being questioned at the ground for the first time today. Supporters don't turn on managers overnight, so that tells you something. Whether it's tactics, substitutions, or the mentality of the team, hard questions need answers. His honeymoon period feels over and the pressure will ratchet up. I don't envy anyone having to steady this ship, but accountability is part of being in charge.
We deserved better today. We deserved more over the season. Now we need some honest appraisal from inside the club and a reaction on the pitch, and soon.
