Maswanhise has been at Ibrox for just six games and, to be fair, already offers something we were missing on the right-hand side. It’s a small sample but there are real signs to like. The press will fuss about price — don’t get hung up on that — the football is what matters.

Small sample, decent signs

Look at the numbers and remember the caveats. The stats people quote are based on those six appearances. If you whimsically stretched that rate across a 29-game season you arrive at roughly 19 assists and five goals — hypothetical, not a promise. Still, even allowing for regression to the mean, producing that kind of output straight away while coming back from three months out tells you he’s adapted quickly.

Comparisons need context

It’s tempting to line him up against Olsen or the recent Hibs sale and draw neat conclusions. Olsen has produced at a decent level for years; what Maswanhise is doing is his first proper season to attract attention. Different careers, different situations. Price talk from the press is mostly noise — clubs will want value, but the football on the pitch is a better guide for us supporters.

Why he actually matters now

He’s not fully match-fit yet, which makes the early output more encouraging. What he brings is tangible: a right-hand presence who can stretch play, deliver, and offer attacking intent in wide areas. That suits the shape we see under the manager and gives the team another avenue on transitions and set-ups. There’s room to improve — mobility, end product and consistency will come with minutes.

To sum up: don’t overreact to a headline price, don’t crown him prematurely, but do appreciate the quick impact. He’s young, still finding rhythm, and already adding something different. That’s worth backing as the season unfolds.
