Look, there are sensible arguments for Maswanhise and fair concerns about Olsen. The way I see it, Maswanhise isn't a simple right winger, and Olsen right now doesn't justify the kind of fee and wages we'd pay. Let him prove it first.
Where Maswanhise fits
As you've pointed out, Maswanhise has a lot of games as a centre forward (42), left winger (38) and a handful as a right winger (8). Those are the roles he'd realistically occupy for us. What that tells me is he's versatile across the front line rather than a natural touchline winger who hugs the byline.
At Ibrox, wide players often have less space because fullbacks tuck in and the midfields are tighter. He enjoyed space with Mwell, you can see why, but that won't be guaranteed here. He might be better used through the middle or as an inverted left, not as a traditional right winger.
He also offers hold-up play and pressing from the front, which could suit a system that wants strikers to occupy defenders and create space for inside forwards. Useful, but not a guarantee on the wing.
Olsen: overpriced at the moment
On Olsen, I'm with you: for the money I wouldn't sign him now. If form doesn't improve it's a no. Paying high wages and a transfer fee for the returns we've seen would be poor business.
He may have a few assists and a goal, but I don't recall him beating a player consistently or posing a regular wide threat. Wingers need more direct impact, dribbles, creating chances and stretching defences. Value isn't just goals and assists; it's how often a player changes a game. Rangers need wingers who can take a defender and deliver consistent end product. If Olsen can't do that, it's a hard sell.
What we'd prefer
Given what's on the table, I'd rather Sima or Cerny if they were realistic options. They'd bring different profiles and maybe more directness. But we shouldn't chase names. Use whatever funds we have for someone who fits the system and offers genuine width and pace.
If we don't sign a winger who can beat a man, recruit someone who offers overlaps and accurate set-piece delivery. Those small margins win tight Scottish games. There's still time for Olsen to change minds, but as of now I'm cautious.
I'm not writing Olsen off, but caution and patience are needed. To be fair, fans will disagree. But smart recruitment means matching player strengths to what Rangers actually demand from wide players. That's the angle to keep in mind.
