I've been fortunate to watch a long line of Rangers forwards down the years — the Johnstones, Parlane, Stein era through to McCoist and Boyd. Football changes, players change, but the eye for a natural finisher is something that doesn't lie. For me Marco 'Goalo' Negri stood out as the most instinctive striker I've seen in a Rangers shirt, especially in those months from August to November when his movement and finishing felt effortless.
Remembering the greats
It's easy to fall into the nostalgia trap, but some players genuinely altered how you viewed the centre-forward role. Ally McCoist is our record scorer for a reason, and Kris Boyd had that ruthless edge. Michael Mols brought a different skillset — the turns, the awareness — and honestly, watching those bits at Ibrox sticks with you. Each brought something unique: one-time poachers, clever movement, quick feet. You can't lump them all together because they did different jobs, but you knew they could deliver goals when it mattered.
Give the new boys a proper run
That said, this isn't a plea to compare everyone directly to past legends every week. Chermiti, Naderi and Miovski haven't had a full season to show their best yet — Naderi only a couple of months in, as many have pointed out. The sensible thing is to stick with them, let them bed in, learn the team shape and press, and see how they develop across a season. Strikers can take time to read teammates, time to find the right runs, and time to click with our tempo and transitions.
Why patience matters
Expectation will always be loud at Ibrox, but patience does pay off. Give them games, let them learn the off-the-ball bits, the pressing triggers, the final ball timing. If they're still here at the end of the campaign, we'll have a fairer picture. I genuinely expect improvement from all three next season if the club keeps faith and the coaching does its work. To be fair, few things beat the sight of a striker with instinct — and when we see that, we notice it straight away.
