Let’s be honest: the result doesn’t tell the full story. We battered them for long spells, forced saves, blocked shots and never stopped asking questions. Saying we were "shocking" after that feels reactionary and a bit unfair. To be fair, sometimes football bites you back.
We were the side on the front foot. The goalkeeper they had kept them in it and their back line threw themselves in the way of everything that came their way. They only managed a handful of attempts, yet two went in. You can call that luck, fine, but luck is part of the game and defenders willing to sacrifice themselves earns you draws on nights like that.
Criticism is part of being a supporter, I get that — we all want better. But there’s been a habit of being hyper-critical after certain results while letting performances that deserved praise slide when points went our way. We played miles better in this match than in a few games we left with three points, and nobody was shouting then. Consistency in judgement would be nice.
Look at the bigger picture. A draw at Hibs and one at Motherwell aren’t disasters; this league is competitive. Hibs have done well and Motherwell cause problems for anyone, so piling on despair after every dropped point is pointless. Add the points up in a couple of months and we’ll see where we stand. I don’t want the title wrapped up in March, nor do I want Celtic running away with it by 20. A tight, exciting title race is what Scottish football needs.
Truth is, take the positives from that game. We created chances, worked hard, and showed character. Frustrating? Of course. Shocking? Not really. Keep the faith — and the barometer of judgement sensible.
