It’s tempting to look for a turning point every time Rangers put a decent result together, but the truth is it only really means something if it’s backed up with a run. A proper winning streak. Better performances, not just a one-off where we scrape through or look good for 20 minutes.

“Turning the tide” needs proof

I’m not totally sold that we’re there yet, because we’ve seen too many poor displays this season already. Not even just the odd off day either, more like the same issues popping up again and again. Loose passing under pressure. A lack of control when the tempo rises. Too many moments where you’re thinking, how have we ended up chasing a game we should be dictating?

And it does come back to personnel. Some of these players, for all they might be honest pros, still don’t look like the level Rangers should be carrying if we’re serious about pushing on domestically. That’s not being dramatic, it’s just the reality of what you see week to week.

Danny Röhl deserves credit

That said, I do like Danny Röhl. You can see he’s trying to put shape and standards in place, and to be fair he’s working with what he has. That matters. It’s easy to talk about “identity” and “style”, but it takes time to coach it into a squad that’s been inconsistent and is still short in key areas.

Even when things aren’t perfect, there’s a sense he’s attempting to build something coherent, rather than just hoping individual moments bail us out. That alone feels like progress.

January and the bigger rebuild

If Rangers can add maybe three players who hit the ground running, that could change the feel of the season quickly. Not a scattergun window, just smart additions in the areas where we’re clearly short. The kind of recruits who lift the level immediately and make the manager’s job easier.

And it’s not only about January. If we can finish the season with a bit of momentum, then the summer becomes a chance to properly reshape the squad, moving players out as well as bringing the right ones in. That’s how you make a real impact, not by papering over cracks.

Hearts showing mental strength at the top is a reminder that it’s not all about talent, it’s about consistency and focus. Rangers can’t spend the season staring at others. Concentrate on us, sort our own standards, and make the good spells the norm.
