There’s a strange double standard in how views are treated among Rangers fans just now. Criticism is welcomed and repeated until it becomes a sermon; a different take and suddenly you’re the odd one out. That’s not healthy for the club or for the conversation around it.

Double standards on display

We all want the best for the team, but you can’t pretend there isn’t bias in who gets listened to. One persistent narrative gets amplified and becomes the accepted truth. Offer an alternative and you’re accused of being blinkered. To be fair, passionate debate is part of supporting Rangers — but it should be about the football, not about shutting people down.

What responsibility does the manager have?

I don’t claim to read Rohl’s mind, but it’s reasonable to say the manager sets the tone. If certain behaviours or selections aren’t being curbed, it looks like they’re tolerated. That’s a fair line of questioning. Equally, insisting players must hit the net in every big game before we can criticise them is daft. Football is messy. Form ebbs and flows. You can point out a lack of goals from the strikers without demanding perfection in every fixture.

Fan or supporter — does it matter?

There’s a difference between enjoying the show and sticking with the club through the rough patches. Fans admire and are entertained; supporters stick around regardless. Both have a place, and both should be allowed to voice their view without being dismissed. You see it on the message boards and sites like Rangers News Views — folks with a different take deserve a fair hearing.

So let’s argue, sure. But keep it about the football. We all want Rangers to win, and that should be the starting point for any discussion.
