There’s a clear tension here. I get the feeling Rohl is the sort of coach who will shut up shop once we go ahead, but we simply don't have the personnel to make that system reliable. Sitting back invites pressure, and while we might avoid heavy defeats, too many draws leave us short. The argument is simple: we need to win games, not just not lose them.

Why sitting back doesn't suit us

To be fair, defending a lead is an understandable instinct. Game management matters. But inviting teams to come at us exposes weaknesses in our shape and personnel. When the midfield gets bypassed, the centre-backs are left isolated. If you want to protect a lead you need a mid- block that can press in pairs, quick cover in transition and a midfield who can take the sting out of possession. Right now that balance isn’t there consistently.

Clear areas for recruitment

We’ve already said it — a quality centre-back is essential to replace Souttar. Someone comfortable on the ball, but also ruthless in one-vs-one moments. Up front, Miovski hasn’t convinced plenty of us and the squad needs a striker who can lead the line alongside Chermiti, someone who links play and makes intelligent runs. And when Moore moves on, we’ll need a creative number ten who isn’t a passenger; someone who can turn tight games with a moment of quality.

The midfield signing that changes everything

Above all else this team needs a true number 6 — a player who can dictate tempo, shield the defence and control transitions. Not an easy profile to find, but the right one makes everyone else better. He doesn’t have to score goals; he has to stop them, recycle possession and give the team a spine. Get that one piece right and the whole front-foot mentality Rohl wants becomes realistic.

At the moment it's about the coach adjusting and the board delivering in the window. You can see why Rohl might protect a lead, but truth is the squad has to be equipped for it. Otherwise we’ll keep dropping points that feel like missed chances.
