We need to be blunt. This season's drift has shown Rohl is still learning, and I’m as frustrated as anyone. If we’ve slipped out of the title race and look set to be fighting for third, that changes the conversation.
Where we are, and why it matters
To be fair, Rohl has done some decent things under awkward circumstances. The owner, the board, the constant pressure — none of it helps a young manager trying to stamp a style on the team. But truth is, expectations at Rangers aren’t for occasional title runs every few years. They’re for competing at the top every season. Fans can see the gap; it’s not just sour posturing after a bad night.
What Rohl needs to prove
Experience doesn’t arrive overnight. You can forgive mistakes when you can see learning taking place. The issue is speed. How long do we give a manager who’s clearly inexperienced? A couple more seasons might be reasonable if there’s clear progress. If not, fans will rightly ask the club to move on. And nobody wants constant churn, but neither do we want to stand still.
Summer business has to be more than lip service
We can’t talk about patience without a plan. He 100% needs the chance to sign his own players, but that must be matched with a coherent recruitment policy. A proper clear-out is fine — I’m looking forward to one too — but it has to be intelligent. Get the profiles right, bring in players who fit the shape and the tempo we want, and don’t waste three months on half-measures.
Ultimately this is the board’s call as much as the manager’s. Back Rohl if you’re convinced he’s learning fast and has the plan. Otherwise demand changes. Either way, next season can’t be a repeat of mistakes. Fans deserve clarity and effort, not excuses.
Rangers News Views aside, that’s where I’m at: frustrated, realistic, and wanting to see real action this summer.
