We defended a lead and paid for it. The second half exposed the same problem: gone from control to looking shot inside an hour, and that’s down to more than one thing.
Where it went wrong
Fatigue might have been a factor after a big first-half shift. You could see the legs go and the press lost its bite. But that only tells half the story. Once we sat in and invited pressure the opposition grew in confidence. It’s a pattern now — when we try to defend a slim lead we seem to lose our shape and intensity, and teams that keep probing find a way.
Subs and adjustments that didn’t stick
Hatate’s introduction changed the middle for a spell, but the follow-up moves didn’t land. I get the logic behind the Dio sub, the attempt to shore things up or change the dynamic, but it never worked. The team needed Rohl to adapt the shape and the match-ups quicker, and that didn’t happen. We were out-fought and out-worked after about 50 minutes by a side who’d just come through midweek — that shouldn’t be the case.
Still hope, but the margin is slimmer
I don’t think the title was lost today. That damage was done earlier with dropped points to Livi, Well and Hibs and the turmoil during the Martin era. What today did was make the climb steeper. We’ve put ourselves in a tougher position, yet we’re still thereabouts. It’s a big ask now, but I’m not ready to give up. No surrender.
