Rohl's doing alright in my book, but yesterday's game laid bare a simple truth: fitness and depth are letting us down. The first half looked fine, then the players ran out of legs. If we use the summer properly — sorting the defence and sharpening fitness — we should come back stronger.
Why the second half fell away
To be fair, you could see why the legs went. A few players clearly aren't at peak conditioning and that showed in transitions, second balls and set-piece defending. Barron has been a standout for me since he arrived — he covers acres and his fitness levels often outshine others. But when the bench offers few reliable changes, fatigue becomes contagious and games slip away.
Defence needs a proper organiser
Our defence has been shaky at times. We need a commanding centre-back who can organise the backline and give the full-backs confidence. Full-back depth is a worry, especially with injuries eating into options. Strength, leadership and communication from the back would steady the team and make the rest of the side simpler to manage.
Midfield and attack: control, creativity and consistency
Midfield is where we lose control. We need someone who can dictate play, retain the ball under pressure and break up attacks — a box-to-box or deep-lying playmaker would change the tempo. Right now creativity and control are thin, piling pressure on our forwards. That's why I question Diomande; he loses possession too often and can seem disengaged. Raskin can do a job, but he frustrates and sometimes looks lightweight on the ball. Miovski and Bajrami feel replaceable if smarter, more clinical options are available. Chermiti shows up in big games, but he needs to apply himself more consistently against the smaller sides.
Ultimately, smart summer signings in defence and midfield and a proper fitness programme are the priorities. Get those pieces right and we won't just compete — we'll have the personnel to see games out and push on next season.
