It’s amazing how quickly a Rangers story can go from “what’s happened?” to “get him out the door” in the space of a few hours. We’ve all seen it. Group chats flying. Threads snowballing. Folk arguing like the verdict’s already been read out. Truth is, none of us are sitting with the full details, and until we are, there’s a bit of common sense needed.

Rumour isn’t evidence, even when emotions are high

Fans can be furious at the idea of wrongdoing, and in some cases that anger is understandable. But there’s a line between saying “this would be unacceptable if true” and declaring someone guilty based on fragments and hearsay. Rangers don’t get to run on vibes, and neither should we.

People talk about “the club needs to act immediately” as if it’s always that simple. It isn’t. There are legal steps, internal procedures, and sometimes police involvement. Those processes exist for a reason, and rushing to a conclusion usually ends up making things worse for everyone.

Football clubs are businesses with rules to follow

It’s easy to forget in the heat of it that a football club is still an employer. Same as any other workplace. There are contracts, terms and conditions, HR policies, and employment law. If something allegedly happened outside work time, outside club duties, then the club’s response still has to be measured and justified.

That doesn’t mean there’s no consequence for misconduct. It means the club has to be careful about the why and the how. Suspension, dismissal, disciplinary action, all of it has to be backed up properly. Otherwise you’re walking straight into a potential unfair dismissal claim, and the club ends up paying for it twice.

You can condemn drink driving without guessing the outcome

One point should be crystal clear: drink driving is wrong, full stop. If someone is caught and it’s proven, then punishments should follow. No debate. But it’s also possible to hold that view while still saying, “let’s wait for confirmed facts before we start demanding sackings or bans”.

So for me, it’s simple. Take a breath. Let Rangers do what they need to do, let the authorities do what they need to do, and when the full picture is clear, then supporters can judge it properly. Anything else is just noise.
