There are transfer windows where every name gets folk wound up, and others where you read it and just shrug. That’s basically where I’m at with Isac Lidberg. I’ve not heard anything concrete on Rangers interest, and even if it was real, he’s not a player that gets me buzzing.

The simple worry is output. If you’re going to be Rangers’ main striker, or even part of the core group up top, you need to bring goals, threat, and a bit of inevitability in the box. From what I’ve seen and what gets said about him, Lidberg doesn’t scream that level. It feels like a step you make when you’re punting on potential, not when you’re trying to set a standard.

Lidberg: if it’s true, it feels like a punt

I’m not saying he can’t be a success. Football’s full of lads who prove you wrong when they land in the right system with the right service. If Rangers did sign him, I’d obviously want him to do well, because that’s the point. But my expectations would be lower than what you’d normally demand from a Rangers player, and that’s never a great starting place.

For comparison, I don’t think he’s any better than Miovski. That’s not meant as disrespect to anyone, it’s just about the level Rangers should be aiming at. We should be signing forwards that make you think, “Right, this guy will score in tight games, this guy will win you points when it’s scrappy.” If the vibe is more “maybe he’ll come good,” you can see why supporters start asking questions.

Hjertø-Dahl: the one that sounds like it’s actually moving

Jens Hjertø-Dahl is different. The chat around this one sounds more like a proper race, with Eintracht Frankfurt mentioned as the main competition. That’s a serious club to be up against, so even being in that conversation suggests Rangers see something worth chasing.

What’s interesting is the shift in confidence. Last week the feeling was we only had about a 30% chance of getting it done, but the mood now is a lot more positive. That happens in windows. Things go quiet, then suddenly agents are travelling, conversations get more direct, and it either accelerates quickly or dies off just as fast.

With the agent reportedly due in Scotland over the weekend, you’d expect clarity sooner rather than later. Whether the player himself follows before a pre-season friendly is another matter, but you can usually tell when a deal has moved from “interest” to “properly happening” by the amount of movement around it.

Truth is, this is the bit of the summer where Rangers fans just want signs of a clear plan. If one link feels like a downgrade and the other feels like genuine competition, you’re always going to lean towards the one that looks like progress.
