When you look back at the Rangers teams that have actually delivered, there’s usually a clear pattern. We tend to be at our strongest when there is a proper core of Scottish lads, or boys who have already done a few hard years in the Scottish game. Players who know the grounds, the surfaces, the referees and the pressure. That is why I like that we seem to be leaning more towards home-grown or Scotland-tested talent again.

Home-grown spine and the case for Bowie

For me, Bowie would be a good signing. The attraction is simple enough. He would not be coming in as a ready-made main man, but as someone who can grow into the role and push the current first choice rather than just make up the numbers.

Bowie as a back-up to Miovski makes a bit of sense. He would offer something different, bring his own strengths, but still have a realistic opportunity to properly challenge for minutes. That kind of competition is healthy, especially in a squad where we have sometimes been guilty of either overloading one position or leaving ourselves short.

Miovski: knows the league, lower risk

On Miovski, I thought he played well last night and I still think he will come good. He already knows the league and that takes away a lot of the guesswork. There is no big adaptation to Scottish pitches, the physical side or the tempo. At the fee being talked about, that makes him a lower-risk option compared to taking a punt on someone with no SPFL experience.

He has shown enough that you can see why people are prepared to be patient. With the right service and a bit of confidence, there is a player there. Sometimes it really is just about getting on a run and feeling like you belong at a club this size.

Time up for Danny Rohl and Chermiti?

As for Danny Rohl, you can tell he is a good guy and a hard worker, but it just has not clicked for him here. Some moves just do not work out, no matter the effort. It feels like he might actually be revitalised by a move away, getting a fresh start somewhere else instead of trying to force it at Ibrox.

Chermiti is the one I struggle to see any real hope with. At this point, I think we need to be looking at a sale or a loan, because there is no real sign that he is about to suddenly turn the corner. For a squad that needs to be sharper and more balanced, we cannot afford too many passengers in key areas.

So for me, a clearer direction is starting to emerge: lean into players who know the league, add hungry home-grown options like Bowie to support someone like Miovski, and be ruthless with the ones who are not going to make it. It is not flashy, but it is how proper Rangers squads are usually built.
