Passing, turning, timing a run — these are trained instincts. But instincts depend on a calm, practiced mind. It’s not an excuse for slackness — it’s a psychological fact that helps explain dips in form and panic moments.
So when you see someone look nervous on the ball, don’t assume they’ve forgotten how to play. You can see why nerves snap routines. You can also see why a calm dressing room and a bit of public patience matters.
What we should take away
Supporters will always voice opinions — we’re passionate people — but remembering how pressure changes performance should temper how we judge. To be fair, high standards are right, but let’s not confuse the habitual skill a player has in training with what they can deliver under a screaming crowd. It’s not the same thing at all.
