Rumours have always been part of a transfer window, but the reaction here lately has been maddening. We get whispers about Raskin, Diomande, Bajrami, Barron and maybe Cameron, and suddenly everyone assumes the sky is falling. My take? Don’t panic yet. There’s a sensible explanation for why players might be linked away and why that could end up helping us.
Why the panic? Because loss feels immediate and gains are hypothetical. I get it. You read a list of names and picture a worse side overnight. But football isn’t carried out in a vacuum. If proper offers land for those names, it’s not the end of the world — it’s the transfer market doing its job. Players move, squads evolve, managers reshuffle plans. It’s messy and it’s raw, but it’s also normal.
Money in, money out. That’s how progress often happens. If Rangers sell players who attract decent bids, the smart move is to convert that into reinvestment. We’ve all heard talk of the Serbian youngster, Dahl, Ferguson and others. No one’s claiming guarantees, but the principle is sound: cashing in on assets and bringing in targeted quality is how clubs improve. The takeover changed the scale a bit. Expectations have shifted. Andrew Cavanagh wants success and he’s seen how brutal a season can be when things go wrong. You can see why the board would be keen to strengthen properly rather than tinker.
Trust the plan, cautiously. I’m not saying every sale will happen and every signing will be perfect. I’m not blind to the risks. But being pessimistic by default isn’t helpful. Supporters should be picky, demanding and sceptical when needed. Equally, we can acknowledge the club might be serious about bringing in higher-calibre players and willing to spend where it counts. If it all falls apart, fair enough — call me out. Until then I’m on board with the idea that sensible sales can fund proper upgrades and give us a squad capable of competing for everything.
We’ll see how the window plays out. For now, keep the faith but keep asking the hard questions.
