There re reports doing the rounds about Sankhoun Diawara and, to be fair, you can see why his name would attract attention. A 20-year-old French youth international who impressed late in the season for Troyes and helped with promotion is the sort of young defender clubs keep an eye on. If Rangers are genuinely monitoring him then this is understandably of interest, but we must be level-headed about what the signing would actually mean.
Why he would appeal
A young centre-back with recent momentum ticks a few boxes for our recruitment model. Youth, upside and some first-team experience in a tough league environment are appealing. Players who come through performing in promotion battles often show resilience and a bit of steel. And naturally, the idea of adding fresh legs to the backline while keeping the experienced heads around sounds sensible.
Where he might fit in
Truth is, this squad already values experience at the back. If the club were to sign someone like Diawara he would probably start as a developmental option, learning behind three more seasoned centre-backs.
