There’s been a lot of noise about Lewis Ferguson lately, but the substance is thin. Most of what’s doing the rounds comes from a monetised X account and a WhatsApp chain, not the usual mainstream sources. So before we all start pencilling him in, a word of caution.

Where this is coming from

From what I’ve seen the original posts are from an X account that the poster says has had numerous name changes over the last year. The same account allegedly had other names and claims that didn’t materialise. There’s also a WhatsApp thread about the supposed structure of a Ferguson deal. That sort of thing spreads fast, and once it’s out there people latch on.

Why fans should be wary

If a transfer is genuinely close you tend to see the established reporters and well-known outlets picking it up. That’s not happening here. I’m not saying Ferguson won’t ever come — I’d love him at Ibrox — but the lack of mainstream confirmation makes this feel premature. People will get their hopes up and then be gutted if nothing happens. We’ve all been there before.

What would convince me?

A reliable journalist running the story, an official club line, or consistent reporting from more than one credible source would change things. Until then, it’s sensible to treat this as speculation rather than a near-certainty. To be fair, some names get overhyped on social platforms; that doesn’t mean the player won’t ever arrive, just that the current chatter shouldn’t be taken as gospel.

Call it caution, call it realism. I hope we end up celebrating a signing, but right now it looks a long way off and fans deserve to be warned rather than set up for disappointment.
