To be fair, the simple point is this: Rangers are collecting results even when our strikers aren’t scoring regularly. That doesn’t mean the issue should be dismissed, but it does change how damaging the problem actually is.
The draws tell a story
You only need to look at the numbers since Rohl came in. Rangers: 6 draws, 1 loss. Hearts: 5 draws, 5 losses. Celtic: 2 draws, 7 defeats. Motherwell: 7 draws, 3 defeats. On paper that shows a team that finds ways to avoid defeat more often than some rivals. If a striker had nicked a goal in a couple of those stalemates then sure, we might have turned draws into wins, but football isn’t that neat. It’s easy to say a lone header would have changed the table, harder to prove it actually would.
Why goals from everywhere still matter
Goals from midfield or full-backs smooth over periods when the front men are quiet. We’ve been told we have the best goal difference and have scored as many or more than the other four, and only Motherwell have conceded less (3). That collective scoring is a strength and explains why we’ve clawed back 11 points on Hearts and Celtic since Rohl arrived. Goals spread around the team reduce reliance on one scorer and make us harder to play against.
What Rohl’s choices suggest
Truth is, Rohl tinkers when he thinks it’s needed. If he was convinced the lack of goals from strikers was wrecking results, you’d expect wholesale changes or a different shape. He hasn’t done that, which could mean he’s content with the balance and the points coming in. Equally, it might be a short-term compromise while he trusts the process. Either way, moaning about strikers in isolation misses the bigger picture: the team is getting results, and that counts for a lot.
So is the lack of striker goals hurting us? To a degree, yes. But the evidence so far suggests it’s not crippling. We’re in a decent position and the manager appears to accept the trade-offs for now. That’s not the end of the debate, just the reality you have to live with as a supporter.
