Tuesday’s fixtures gave our youngsters mixed fortunes. Alloa drew 1-1 with Falkirk but progressed on penalties, Kilmarnock picked up a narrow 1-0 win over Hamilton Accies, while East Kilbride lost out in a high-scoring affair with St Mirren. Queen’s Park didn’t play in that round and were due back the following day. The group stage games are useful match minutes for these lads — competitive calcium, if you like.
Players to keep an eye on
Kyle Glasgow at Alloa deserves a shout. Two starts, solid minutes and his strike v Falkirk was his first pro goal — that’s the sort of moment that gives confidence. Max Cameron is also getting regular starts at Alloa and is clocking minutes, even if the end product hasn’t come yet. At Queen’s Park, Lewis Stewart has featured twice with a substitute appearance and a start; he’s getting involved and learning the ropes in a senior setting.
Aiden McCallion made a start and logged almost an hour for Queen’s Park, which is the sort of steady progress you want to see from our midfield prospects. Bailey Rice has started both Kilmarnock games and is accumulating competitive minutes in the engine room. Zebedee Lawson has been signed by Queen’s Park but hadn’t featured by the latest update — he’ll likely be eased in.

Seven loanees across four clubs is a tidy spread for early season development. These cup games let managers rotate while the youngsters pick up real-game experience — pressing, tempo changes, physicality. To be fair, not every appearance needs to be headline-grabbing; consistent minutes and small learning steps matter more at this stage.
