Shankland and McCrorie: steady hands and homecomings

Shankland ticks the boxes most fans like. He feels like a pragmatic capture — someone who’ll get goals and keep the crowd happy. You can see why the club moved for him; it’s tidy business that soothes the nerves. McCrorie’s return is the sentimental shout. He left to play, gathered experience away from Ibrox and has come back to the place he clearly cares about. Those types often settle quicker because they know the surroundings and what it means to wear the shirt.

Neil: hope and a few warning signs

Neil gives off Championship-type vibes to my eye — the kind of player who can be brilliant one minute and infuriating the next. I get the Dowell/Cantwell/Rothwell comparisons in terms of temperament and potential. Fingers crossed he’s the kind who steps up rather than the sort who brings the FEAR. If he finds consistency he’ll cause problems for defences, but the big ask is steadiness over a full season at this level.

Godfrey and Pandur: genuine "what ifs"

Godfrey is the archetypal gamble. If he rediscovers the form that once earned him a big move, lovely — we’ve nailed it. If not, it’s the kind of signing that will have fans asking questions. Pandur isn’t official yet in the original notes, but looks likely. A Croat at Ibrox — fans always like that flair — though there’s the practical side: will he handle long throws, direct balls into the box and the general shove of the SPFL? Adaptation matters as much as raw ability.
