The short version: fix recruitment first, then give Derek McInnes the tools and time to rebuild properly. Without reliable scouting we'll keep buying lottery tickets instead of match-winners, and nobody wants that.
Why recruitment is the priority
Look, this isn't rocket science. We can keep picking up promising projects and hope they become Premier League-ready, or we can recruit players who slot straight into the starting eleven and make a difference now. The scouting setup — the people identifying targets, the data and the contacts — needs a proper review from Cavanagh and Gillespie. Get that right and transfers stop being a roll of the dice.
What McInnes needs in the transfer market
I'm not asking for an overhaul of identity. I'm asking for a handful of concrete signings: a reliable right back, a commanding centre half, a left back, competition on the right and a genuine left winger, plus an attacking midfielder who can break low blocks and another striker. We can't be light up front if Chermiti is out for any length of time, and with talk of Miovski heading to the UK the forward line looks thin. Those are sensible, necessary priorities.
Patience, but with accountability
No knee-jerk sackings. I get being frustrated — so do most of us — but constantly changing managers hasn't helped. If it takes a couple of transfer windows for McInnes to shape the squad, so be it. That said, patience doesn't mean passivity. We must upgrade scouting and hold the recruitment structure to account so any manager, McInnes included, has a real chance to succeed.
To be fair, it's a bumpy road, but with the right signings and smarter recruitment we can get Rangers back to where the club belongs.
