If we take this list at face value, it reads like a proper summer reshuffle. A manager move, a couple of big-money goalkeeper and defensive arrivals, plus the usual crop of loans and out-of-contract exits. You can see why supporters would be torn — there are encouraging arrivals on paper, but losing familiar faces leaves a few uneasy questions.
Incomings that catch the eye
On the incoming side the names jump out: Ivor Pandur for a reported £6m, Ross McCrorie back from Bristol, Dan Neil and Lawrence Shankland listed as free signings, and Ben Godfrey noted as a loan from Atalanta with a potential option. If those details are correct, there’s a clear attempt to rebuild around a stronger spine — new keeper, central additions and an experienced forward. To be fair, you can see the logic: shore up the base and hope the attacking numbers follow.
Departures — expected and worrying
On the other hand the out list reads heavy. Danny Röhl’s name as heading to RB Salzburg is the headline grabber; losing a manager mid-cycle always disrupts things. Then there’s Jack Butland reportedly leaving for Hull and a number of defenders and veterans listed as gone or out of contract, including James Tavernier. Those exits change the feel of the squad and leave leadership questions — who’s stepping up on and off the park?
Depth, loans and the unanswered bits
There are also the smaller moves and returns — Bailey Rice out on loan, players coming back to parent clubs, and a few unconfirmed loans. That stuff matters because it affects depth. The list hints at intent, but it also raises tactical questions: how will the new keeper and defence gel, who takes set-piece and captain duties, and do we still have enough options up front? It’s a lot to sort through.
In short: interesting business if accurate, but far from tidy. Plenty to like on paper, plenty to worry about in practice. We’ll need clarity on the manager situation and some early cohesion on the pitch before anyone settles on optimism.
