There are moments when a game tells you more than the result. Yesterday felt like one of those. What should have been a simple early-season test turned into a messy snapshot of a club that, to many of us, now looks directionless off the park and disjointed on it.
Let's be blunt — this takeover promised optimism and investment. Instead, supporters are watching a club that, on the evidence so far, has regressed. We've poured money in yet sit further from our aims. Fans are asking the obvious questions: why is the squad not improved, why are recruitment and football operations misfiring, and why are we slipping down the league when expectation was for us to be challenging at the top?
It's understandable to wonder whether being a successful businessman automatically makes you a good football owner. The answer, from what we've seen, is no. Decisions at board and recruitment level have consequences on the pitch. Multiple staffing changes, poor signings and recruitment that looks scattergun have left supporters cynical. The money spent means expectations are higher — and so is disappointment when results and performances don't follow.
Then there's the manager. I wanted Derek McIness to work out — honestly I did. But the team selection and substitutions against Hibs felt bizarre. Playing a central midfielder at right-back, taking off our most creative players and bringing on puzzling combinations — it's hard not to question the plan. Are these desperate tweaks while the gaffer searches for answers, or are we watching a lack of coherent strategy?
We all know the next games matter, especially Europe. The club needs a result and confidence more than ever. But this isn't just on the manager. Those running the club must show clarity, back a proper recruitment strategy and stop the revolving-door approach. Supporters deserve more than excuses — they deserve a clear direction.
To be fair, it's early in the campaign. But early or not, the pattern we saw yesterday can't continue. It's time for straight answers and quicker fixes. Stop the rot — start acting like the club we all believe Rangers should be.
