Enough with the doom and gloom, there's room for an optimistic corner of this support. We should give DM and the chairman time to build a proper squad before writing the whole project off.
Building foundations, not headlines
Not every signing needs to be a flashy headline. Sometimes you build from the base up, bodies who cover ground, who accept a role and who fit a system. The early arrivals look like they were picked with purpose: guys who can press, who will run for each other and who understand the basics of team shape. That grit and organisation has been missing recently, and you can see why a manager would want to establish that before chasing glamour. Fans want excitement, but a tough, dependable core gives you something to work with when it matters.
Think about systems and transitions, who presses, who holds midfield, how fullbacks join attacks. The recruitment looks like it's aiming at pieces who slot into that kind of shape. If you get the basic geometry right, individual quality has a platform.
Trust the process
The transfer window is still open and we have no idea what the final eleven will look like. New arrivals need time to settle, adapt to the tempo and find their place in off the ball work as much as on it. Judging a squad after a couple of incomings is premature. If the recruitment is coherent there should be a shape emerging by the close of business, and that shape might surprise the doubters.
Give the manager the chance to tinker in pre-season and pick his best group. Patience isn't the same as blind faith, it's allowing the work to take root.
Why optimism matters
Being optimistic is not the same as being naive. It is about giving time, looking for signs of progress and backing a plan that prioritises the collective over the individual. We can still be critical, pointing out weaknesses and asking for improvements, but tone matters. Support that pushes the team on is different to constant hand-wringing that can sour the mood.
