To be blunt: the last thing Rangers need right now is another number 6. After being at the game last night, it was clear to me and plenty around me that the creative spark is missing. We can keep fielding hardworking central defensive midfielders, but without proper creators the forwards are starved of chances.

Attackers first — the midfield needs spark

We ought to be prioritising 8s and 10s who can play between the lines and link midfield to attack. Chermiti and Shankland are decent options up front, but they need service and clever movement in behind. A proper number 10 who can unlock a defence, plus box-to-box options who carry the ball and feed the forwards, should be top of the shopping list.

Wingers who can change games

Two genuine wingers of real quality would transform how we attack. I’m talking about players who can beat a man, deliver quality crosses and create overloads. If we’re being realistic, those signings won’t be cheap — you can see why the poster reckons two 5 million+ wingers would make a big difference. Fingers crossed Dragojevic and Diawara lift the overall spend, but the emphasis must be on end product.

Defence: sensible additions, not panic buys

We do need defensive cover — a centre-back alongside Diawara and a fullback who can cover both sides would be useful. But that shouldn’t come at the cost of creativity. A couple of defenders in the 3–5 million bracket and a versatile fullback would do the job without eating into funds earmarked for attack.

Look, I get the appeal of a tidy number 6: tidy, tidy play, shielding the back four. But where’s the breakthrough? Where’s the player who makes the final pass? Board, scouts, whoever it is — please don’t keep buying what we already have. Spend smart, give us creators, and let the forwards do their jobs.
