We need goals and a focal striker

Chermiti isn't the lone answer and we need goals from everywhere. One striker should be a clear focal point while the other can drop. Maybe a seasoned forward would help the youngsters.

To be fair, I don't hate Chermiti — I just don't see him as a natural out-and-out striker. He might be better used elsewhere on the pitch. The real problem is goals: we need them from midfield, wide areas and from leading the line. Right now it feels piecemeal.

Chermiti and the striker role

Chermiti has shown bits, but if he isn't a centre-forward then let's stop shoehorning him there. If a player is asked to press, hold up and finish then you need someone who naturally does those things. Using him in a slightly different position might unlock his strengths without expecting him to be the main goal threat every week.

Why goals must come from everywhere

History tells you that successful squads get goals from multiple sources. We used to have players in wide or midfield roles chipping in with double figures; those contributions matter. One-in-five chances converted is fine on paper, but the key question is how often do those chances actually arrive? Chances, rhythm and tempo all feed a striker. If the team is starved of quality chances then the forwards look blunt.

Would an experienced striker help?

I think there's sense in bringing a seasoned forward — not as a headline grab, but as someone to start matches, lead the line and mentor the youngsters. One striker should be the focal point while a second can drop deeper, the Firmino example works well here: one drags defenders, the other exploits the space. That sort of understanding takes time to build.

We don't know exactly what Rohl's preferred formation will be after the summer. For now it looks like he's trying to get the best out of what's available. But being realistic, banking on the current crop to lead the line confidently next season feels optimistic — and yes, we've benefited this year from Celtic being off-colour. Expect them to fight back.

So my point stands: add a steady head up front who starts matches and helps the younger lads find their feet. Coaching and minutes matter, but so does having someone who can finish under pressure and show the way on the pitch.
