There are times when supporting Rangers feels less like a hobby and more like a weather forecast you can't get right. I've been a season ticket holder with my mum since 2012, seen the ups and downs and honestly thought the Europa League final would be the moment we were truly back. Since 2022 though, it's felt like a steady slide, new managers, constant injuries, the same frustrations on repeat. It wears you down.

Why it feels so bleak

The pattern is the killer. You latch on to small sparks, a good run, a promising signing, a solid performance, and then something trips us up. Manager after manager feels like hard reset, players in and out with niggles, and just when you think we've turned a corner another result drags us back. Groundhog Day, as someone put it, and you can see why.

It isn't just the table or the media noise. It's the way you go to games with a different posture. Where once you'd bounce into Ibrox with a smile, now there's a hedge of dread. If we win it's almost a relief, if we lose or draw it becomes the default expectation. That's corrosive. It eats at the matchday buzz, the banter, the simple pleasure of standing with your mum and enjoying 90 minutes.

Missing the joy

I'm desperate to get that back. To take my mum, watch a clean tempo, see players pressing and transitions that make you sit up. Not every week will be perfect, no one thinks that, but it shouldn't feel like we're waiting for the other shoe to drop every single game. We deserve better days at Ibrox and the younger lads deserve memories that aren't all frustration.

Not all is lost

Life off the pitch matters too. I've got Paris on the 19th with my partner and I'm going to propose. That's a proper light at the end of a long tunnel for me. It's a reminder that football is only a slice of life. Celebrate the big moments, the personal ones, and let them recharge you for the next match. If the club's fortunes turn, and they will at some point, we'll be ready to enjoy them again.

So keep showing up. Be honest about how you feel, but don't let the present strip away every pleasure. Football can be cruel, but it's also where the best memories come from. I'll be back at Ibrox with my mum, hopefully smiling, and with one or two brighter pages ahead.
