I’m well sold on Dahl. Even if I haven’t watched him live, you can see the traits that make a top midfielder from clips and reports, and Dahl ticks loads of boxes. I’d argue he’s got the sort of quality that could see him operate at a high level in Europe in the coming years, and that’s not just bravado — it’s an honest read of what he brings.

Why I rate Dahl

To be fair, it’s not about hype. You look for composure on the ball, range of passing, awareness off the ball and an ability to influence tempo, and that’s what people are talking about with him. He’s got the technical side and the football IQ, the kind of midfield presence that helps control games. You can see why supporters get excited — he could add a different layer to how we build play through the middle.

Squad reality and the youth question

That said, we have to be sensible. We can’t just sign five more players every window and call it sorted. Squad balance matters. On the youth front, Curtis coming back from a World Cup deserves consideration, and if he and Moore are fighting for the same spot that’s healthy competition. Why must players be some arbitrary age to get a go? If you’re good enough, you should be playing, full stop. Age shouldn’t be the gatekeeper.

Centre-backs and transfer noise

There’s also the centre-back situation to think about. I can see Nsiala going out on loan to get minutes, and that would mean looking for someone with a bit more experience to steady things. As for the supposed Serbian signing, I’m inclined to call a lot of that paper talk until something real comes out. Equally, if Diomande does move on, it would make sense to have names lined up and to be ready to move for targets like Dahl when the timing is right.

All in all, I’m optimistic about Dahl but pragmatic about how we approach business. Get the balance right, back the youngsters when they merit it, and don’t get carried away with every rumour. That feels like the smart way forward for the club.
