Why Shankland and McCrorie Make Sense

Too many on here are moaning that we've only signed two Scots — Shankland and Mcrorie — as if we should stockpile nationality over quality. That's a daft way to build a team. To be fair, the point about a Scottish core making fans feel closer is romantic, but truth is fans want winners, not a passport list. Fans want identity, sure, but identity has to be earned on the pitch. Winning nights and tackling for each other create that bond far more than national origin.

Why Shankland is worth the fuss

Shankland has proven time and again he'll score goals, especially in the big games. He's been among the top goal scorers three seasons out of the past four, so you can't write that off. You need finishers at Ibrox who take chances and have a nose for the important goals. People forget the simple math: goals win matches. If a player brings that, nationality is secondary. He knows how to handle pressure and the crowd; that kind of temperament matters in derbies and cup nights.

McCrorie brings reliability

McCrorie feels like the sort of fullback who won't panic. He might not grab headlines, but steady performances and reliable passing get you through tight league fixtures. The 'seven or eight out of ten' type is invaluable across a season; consistency builds structure. We aren't just signing Scots for the sake of being Scottish — we are signing players who fit the team. He'll also give managers options, able to step into different roles if required, and that sort of utility is underrated.

Culture, not clichés

Wanting an '11 Gattusos' makes for a good headline, but it's not sensible football. You need variety in a squad: creative wingers, goalscorers, defenders who can read the game. Far too often we've had players here who, for whatever reason, didn't seem to care about results. That's the real worry. If Shankland and McCrorie bring the desire and quality the supporters expect, then that's what matters. You need character in the squad but not at the expense of creativity or technique. Balance wins leagues, not a single-minded style.

At the end of the day, connection comes with silverware and nights at Ibrox, not a checklist of passports. So let's judge signings on what they give the team on the pitch. On that measure, I'm happy with these two. Let's give the manager and backroom team a chance; judge by results over the season.
