We need to temper the excitement about big money signings. The core point is simple: sell what can be sold, reinvest sensibly, and don’t let ambition turn into reckless spending. That’s where I stand.
Who we can afford to move on
There are a handful of players who feel expendable in the current squad — the likes of Raskin, Diomonde, Fernandez, Antman, Gassama and Souttar were mentioned by the poster and, to be fair, you can see why they’re considered replaceable. If the club can generate funds from departures like those then reinvestment is the obvious route. Nobody is arguing for selling essentials, just being pragmatic about squad turnover.
Reinvest, but be shrewd
The suggestion of a conservative £50m pot from sales is the kind of healthy balance sheet thinking we need. Reinvest that into key areas, not into flashy headlines. Paying £15–17m for a single player like Ferguson, as the poster said, might not be the best use of money if there are equally good or better options for less. It’s about value for money, not just signing names.
Backing the manager while staying realistic
If McInnes wants to go down a particular route, then back him and see how it pans out. The poster’s optimism that he could win us the league next season isn’t fanciful — a change of manager can galvanise a squad — but success isn’t guaranteed by spending alone. We’ve seen teams get dragged into overspend problems before. Keep the faith, but keep the checks in place.
