There’s a lot of chatter going round and, to be fair, some of it is encouraging. The gist I’ve picked up is that the club are looking beyond the pitch at ways to improve the matchday experience and the Ibrox surroundings, with a bigger push pencilled in for the 2027/28 season.

What I heard

It’s one of those things where you get snippets rather than a full plan. The strongest line I’ve heard is that fan entertainment and the pre-match experience are being treated as priorities. That covers more than just a few screens or music — think about fan zones, better ways to gather before kick-off, and improving the immediate area around the ground so it feels more like an event, not just a journey to a match.

Short-term work: TLC at Ibrox

People keep mentioning short-term fixes, the sort of repairs and improvements that should have been previously attended to. Nothing flash was described to me, just sensible upkeep and making sure the basics are right. You can see why that matters — if the club want to sell a proper matchday experience, the stadium needs to feel cared for. It’s the small things that alter perception: cleaner concourses, better signage, sensible fan flows, and making the areas supporters use regularly feel looked after.

Capacity review — cautious hope

I was also told a review of the stadium, including capacity, is underway. That doesn’t mean seats will be added tomorrow. A review is just that: assessments, options, feasibility. It does, however, show the club are thinking long term about how the ground fits into the wider matchday vision. If they tie a capacity review to improvements in the surrounding area and pre-match offering, it could be a sensible, phased approach rather than a single dramatic change.

So, little by little, this feels like a plan to make Ibrox a better place to be beyond ninety minutes. Take it with the usual pinch of salt — I hear snippets not board minutes — but it’s promising to hear infrastructure and fan experience are on the agenda again.
