Let’s Enjoy the Rumours

I won't pretend this isn't a bit of a 'told you so' — maybe it is. The point I really want to make is simple: not everyone who shares something online is pretending to be ITK. From time to time you pick up a nugget, you pass it on, and sometimes it comes off. Sometimes it doesn't. That's football, and that's part of why the transfer window is fun.

Bits and pieces matter

People hear the odd bit here and there. You might know a name, or just sense that a signing is close. Months ago I mentioned Dan Neil not as gossip plucked from thin air but because I'd heard Rangers had interest. You can argue about timing and whether it should have happened sooner — fair enough — but it moved on. More recently I passed on that a couple of signings were likely and that they would be 'close to home'. Things like Rice extending, McCrorie's return, McInnes being announced and Godfrey following are the sort of developments that start as tiny pieces of information before they become headlines.

Don't be so quick to shut things down

Healthy debate is brilliant. Questioning and scepticism keep the place honest. But when the automatic reply to a rumour is '100% not happening' or an attempt to shoot the poster down, it adds very little. None of us have the full picture. I certainly don't. If someone says they heard something, take it on its merits — ask questions, discuss the pros and cons of a player, enjoy the banter. You can be sceptical without being dismissive.

Keep the forum alive

The truth is this place is made by everyone. Some bring rumours, some bring analysis, some bring stories, some bring banter. All of it adds something. I'll keep posting what I hear, whether it comes off or not, because I enjoy the reaction and the conversation. To be fair, I jump in when I probably shouldn't sometimes — we're all guilty of that. At the end of the day we're all Rangers supporters hoping for the same thing, so let's enjoy the rumours and the debate that comes with them.
