To be fair, I agree with the poster — McInnes feels like the right man for Rangers, but the size of the task is undeniable. The squad as it stands is patchy, with too many signings not pulling their weight. Recruitment has left us with problems that won't be fixed overnight.
Where the squad is letting us down
There are players who simply aren't cutting it at this level. Names have been mentioned — Diomande, Chukwuani, Neil, Aasgaard — and you can see why fans are frustrated. The issue isn't just one or two bad games; it's consistency, intensity and the wrong profiles for how we need to play. When a free signing from Hearts is arguably our most effective centre mid, that's a worrying sign about where previous recruitment went wrong.
Strikers and finishing — no magic wand
I don’t share the Fernandez or Chermiti hype. If the view around the club is to cut losses on those who aren’t delivering, then fair enough — take what you can to reinvest. It's harsh, but truth is we need reliable goals and movement up front. The fact that a free signing has been the more convincing option speaks volumes about transfer strategy in attack.
Small positives and a path forward
All isn't doom and gloom. Curtis and Yokota have looked promising and the new goalkeeper seems to have settled well. Those are small but important green shoots. The manager's job now is clear: bring in quality, shift out the deadwood and rebuild the spine of the team. We also need sharper recruitment — players who fit the shape, press and tempo McInnes wants.
It won’t be quick. Loans, sales and sensible January business are the likely route. Stay positive, but realistic. A few quality signings and a ruthless clear-out would change the mood at Ibrox very fast.
