The window feels strangely muted and I'm not convinced Cameron will force his way into our midfield. Still, if he stays and fights for it, fair play — I rate a trier.
Where Cameron really fits
To be fair, it's easy to like a player who gives everything, but football's about balance and minutes. Cameron looks like someone who'll rub shoulders with the squad, push others in training and be handy cover, rather than start week in, week out. You can see why the manager might prefer players with certain profiles for the middle of the park — shape, tempo, off-the-ball work — and that might limit his opportunities.
That doesn't mean he's worthless. Young players and squad men who are ready to roll up their sleeves are important, especially over a long season. If he wants to stay and fight, good luck to him — competition raises standards, and you never know when an opening will come.
Dahl talk and the quiet window
I hope the Dahl stuff is true, but a five-million-odd bid as a starting point feels light. You don't want to insult the selling club, or signal a lack of intent. Negotiations have layers — valuation, add-ons, sell-on clauses — and fans only see the headlines, not the nuance behind a bid.
Speaking of headlines, the RR transfer show with Chris Jack left me a bit flat. Literally nothing seemed to be happening, and that always gives you a jittery feeling. There's time yet, of course, but I want at least one or two signings done so they can join up properly in pre-season and head to Spain with the rest of the lads.
Captaincy, mentality and what I want to see
One thing I like is how the gaffer seems to be bringing in leaders. Buying players who can wear the armband — or at least be in that conversation — tells you something about the culture he's trying to build. We'll have plenty of candidates for captain and that alone makes things interesting.
Ultimately I want the boys bedded in, the right mentality in camp and a squad that feels together. Quiet windows worry supporters, but a settled dressing room and a clear plan can be worth waiting for. I'm hopeful, but impatient — as any fan is — and I'll be watching the next few weeks closely.
