Plenty of movement in the rumour mill this week, so here’s a tidy look at where things stand with Rangers’ summer business. Reports have linked a few departures as well as targets to fill both full back slots and the wide areas, some deals look close, others are still very much up in the air.
Departures that seem likely
Diomande’s bid has reportedly been accepted, so you can expect his exit to be wrapped up in the next couple of days if everything proceeds. Souttar is also mentioned as being expected to join Leicester. Beyond those two there are names being floated, McCausland, Cameron and Nsiala, but I’ve not seen solid links for them yet. Raskin is an odd one: Rangers Review say there have been no bids and he might leave, but equally a new contract could be on the cards. We’ll have to wait and see.
Who might be coming in
Dutch outlets have been talking about Driouech being agreed and on his way to Glasgow, which would give us more options on the right. There’s still a clear priority for another right winger to compete with Yokota, and Gassama and Curtis are being described as left-sided options rather than cover for both wings. At full back the chatter is that a right back from Villa, Sterling, is of interest, and the plan might be to use that signing as cover at centre back instead of bringing in another central defender. Penrice has been asked about but AEK reportedly want a permanent move or a substantial loan fee, so that one looks trickier.
Fitness, squad shape and what it means
There’s cautious optimism around Chermiti’s injury being just an impact knock rather than something long-term, and some reports suggest Godfrey could be back in about three weeks. If those timelines hold you can understand why the club might delay bringing in a new striker. Overall we look set to prioritise wide options and both full back positions, with a central defender only if the right opportunity arises.
Not the clearest window yet, but there’s genuine activity. I’ll keep an eye on credible reports and any official announcements, to be fair, a few of these feel close enough to get excited about, while others need a bit more substance.
