Short version: this isn’t a simple head-to-head on talent. I’d rather judge who is best for Rangers at this moment, not who might be the flashier name. Raskin has been excellent and deserves thanks, but when you factor in ambition and where the club needs to go now, Lewis Ferguson is the one I’d build around.

Raskin — respect and realism

To be fair, Nico Raskin has shown quality. You can see why people rate him highly. He brings energy, timing and an eye for the pass, and that’s not to be dismissed. But the truth is players like him attract attention from elsewhere. If he’s the kind of lad who wants to test himself in a different league, that’s understandable. We don’t need to pretend otherwise.

So it becomes a question of squad planning. Do you centre your midfield around someone you suspect might be moving on? That can unsettle recruitment, dressing-room balance and what you build tactically.

Ferguson — the practical option

Lewis Ferguson, in my view, ticks a lot of boxes. He looks like a player who can sit at the heart of what we’re trying to do: drive the tempo, make the harder runs, cover ground and provide a reliable presence in the middle. He’s the sort of name you can plan signings around and who fits into a longer-term shape without the constant worry of an impending exit.

That doesn’t mean he’s perfect or that Raskin is inferior as a footballer. It’s more about fit. We need players who match the club’s immediate aims and the style Danny is trying to settle on. Ferguson gives that sense of continuity.

What matters for Rangers

At the end of the day it’s what’s best for Rangers, not a personality contest. I’d thank Raskin for his service and wish him well if he moves on, while backing Ferguson as the one to build around for now. It’s pragmatic, maybe a bit boring, but sometimes you need steadiness more than flash to get the job done.

There will be arguments, sure. But for me, taking the long view and picking the player who fits the club’s current plans is the sensible call.
