Take ITK With a Pinch of Salt

There’s a real tension on fans’ boards between wanting scoops and knowing how to read them. I trust Chris Jack on a lot of what he says, and for good reason — but it’s fair to admit that club messaging and outside tips all get mixed up in the rumour mill. The sensible stance is simple: listen, enjoy the detail, but hold judgment until it’s official. That’s what I do, and it saves a lot of unnecessary grief.

Why sources differ

To be fair, not every bit of information comes from the same place. Clubs will often feed figures or framing to trusted journalists. Other times a tidy rumour comes from scouts, agents or mates in the game who’ve heard something down the line. That’s not sinister — it’s just how the game works. You can see why Chris or any decent ITK type can be right more often than not; they’ve built relationships. But relationships also mean selective sightlines. One man’s fact is another’s half-formed whisper.

Why we shouldn’t overreact

ITK threads can get tiresome when they turn into competitions about who knows more. It becomes less about the club and more about clout. I admit it bores me at times. Still, I value the info. Even a rumour that doesn’t come off can tell you about strategy, targets or how the club is positioning itself publicly. The trick is to treat those snippets as context, not commitments. Take it with a pinch of salt, as the old line goes, right up until the scarf goes up and the club make it proper.

Keep the discussion healthy

We all want the best for Rangers and we all love a bit of inside info. Let’s avoid blowing molehills into mountains though. Question the source, acknowledge that mistakes happen — journos and ITK folk get it wrong sometimes — and carry on supporting the team. I’ll keep reading Chris and others, and I’ll keep my expectations measured. That feels like the grown-up way to enjoy the transfer chatter without losing the plot.
