There’s sense in holding fire on new faces. Tav looks like a genuine goal threat and a proper box-to-box option compared to Chucky and Neil, but we won’t know if he’s the answer until he gets sustained minutes. Same goes for the others — flashes don’t equal guarantees.
Tav’s case: minutes matter
To be fair, you can see why people are excited. A midfielder who gets into the box and can score is a useful asset. But form is earned on the pitch, not in conversation. What he did at Dundee is a fair reference point, but context matters. Different team, different demands. Give him a run and see if he repeats that output against our opposition and under our press. Short cameos won’t settle the argument either way.
Asgard and the preseason bubble
Asgard’s a good example of how quickly hype builds. One tidy preseason appearance and suddenly everyone’s praising him like he’s solved the midfield. Preseason can flatter; opponents and intensity aren’t the same as competitive fixtures. Expectations should be tempered until a player shows consistency in proper matches.
Gassama: promising, but still proving
Gassama has had some decent moments — the user pointed out his impact in that first leg and a couple of recent showings — and I won’t deny it. Yet I’ve also watched enough of him to be cautious. Last season left me unconvinced overall, and I’m not buying the world-beater tag after two decent games. This is a pattern: a good shift and we crown someone. Let’s not do that until the form is sustained across weeks rather than flashes.
Truth is, I’d love to be proven wrong. If Gassama becomes the difference and helps us close the gap, I’ll be the first to admit it. For now, patience is the sensible stance — play the lads, judge on a run, not a moment.
