Short version: I think a lot of the knee‑jerk writing about our window misses the bigger picture. A few sensible additions have actually improved us in important areas and, to be fair, it’s far from finished. Take a breath before deciding the whole rebuild is off.
Goalkeeping and the back line
People love a headline, but Pander looks a very decent goalkeeper and, as some of us have said, feels like an upgrade on Butland in certain respects. Dahl hasn’t signed anywhere at the time of talking, so don’t treat rumour as gospel. Defensively, Djiga had some rough patches last season beyond a handful of decent outings, so bringing in Godfrey feels like a proper improvement. We still have Souttar and Nsiala as experienced options behind them, and you can bet the recruitment team will add another body or two to keep competition healthy.
Wide men, full‑backs and forwards
Meghoma and Aarons were largely utilized as back‑up options, which is fine when the season gets stretched. James Tavernier’s form has been a topic all summer; if the narrative is that he’s past his best then strengthening around that position makes sense. McCrorie coming in to push Sterling brings competition — exactly what you want, not a luxury. Up front, Shankland has bolstered our options and Curtis has looked impressive in flashes; plenty of fans, me included, hope he can step up and offer something different to Mikey Moore. Nobody’s saying everything’s nailed down, just that there are reasons for cautious optimism.
Midfield and the transfer reality
Our midfield hasn’t been weakened by departures because, well, there haven’t been mass exits. If Raskin, Dio Aasgaard, Barron or others do move on then they’ll be replaced — that’s how squads are built. This isn’t a video game where you tick a box and the deal is done instantly. Transfers involve agents, windows, wages, timing and a bit of luck. Patience isn’t a cop‑out; it’s sensible. There’s still time for the right ins and outs, and the early signs are that the club are thinking in the right areas rather than panicking with headline grabs.
