The result was a punch in the teeth. Being outscored by a much lower-ranked side is embarrassing and it left a lot of us wondering how the board could hand Clarke a four-year deal before properly judging that World Cup run. To be fair, people are entitled to their views on the timing — but you can see why fans are angry.
Striker isolation and squad balance
Who wants to play up front for us? That’s the question that keeps coming back. Our strikers are often left on an island, expected to hold the ball up for ages while the rest of the team trudges forward. When service is poor and midfielders don’t make late runs, the centre-forward becomes a target rather than a focal point. It’s soul-destroying to watch — especially when we have technically capable players who could do better in a different system.
Selection and stubbornness
There’s a feeling that favourites get picked, even when form isn’t convincing. That sort of stubbornness flattens the squad and sends a message to fringe players that opportunities will be limited. You end up with a predictable side that’s easy to plan against. The truth is, variety and honest competition for places would sharpen us up.
Fans deserve better
Our supporters turn up in numbers and they deserve football that’s worth the fare and the ticket prices. Anti-football and half-hearted displays won’t cut it. We want intensity, ideas and players given the freedom to express themselves. I don’t expect miracles overnight, but there has to be accountability and a clearer plan. If not, we’ll keep flattering to deceive while the fans pay the price.
Rangers News Views or no, the message from the terraces is simple: we want better. Simple as that.
